Last year, the BBC conducted an investigation titled “Under Poisoned Sky” on the health impacts of activities at Iraqi oil fields.
Following this project, the journalists focused on regional pollution resulting from flaring activities in the Gulf region and sought ARIANET’s support for an initial assessment through modelling simulations. This assessment was based on fragmented information about flaring emissions in Gulf countries and their regional contribution to air quality.
The results of our analysis were integrated into the BBC documentary “Breathless”, which addresses air quality and the health impact of flaring emissions. This documentary was recently presented in Dubai during COP28.
