ARPA Lazio: Emissions Inventory
To assist the Lazio Region in updating and drafting the Air Quality Remediation Plan for the Lazio Region, ARIANET was responsible for updating the regional emissions inventory for Lazio (LAZIO2015 – ver. 2019) based on the year 2015, with updates to more recent years for specific sectors.
Local in-depth investigations and the collection of specific data enable a much higher level of detail compared to the national database, both in terms of emissions and spatial localization.
Specifically, the main in-depth analyses focused on:
- Updating industrial and energy production sources following information gathering conducted by the Agency;
- The macrosector related to residential heating activities, specifically using the results of a statistical survey conducted across the region to obtain a more accurate estimate of the amount of woody biomass used;
- Availability of a detailed traffic model developed by Roma Servizi per la Mobilità within the BEEP project to obtain a more accurate estimate of traffic emissions within the boundaries of the City of Rome;
- Calculation of road resuspension emissions;
- Bottom-up estimation of airport and port emissions;
- More accurate spatial distribution of emissions related to the agricultural sector and calculation of resuspensions associated with it.
For the remaining sectors, emissions are updated in a top-down manner from the national inventory and then spatially distributed at the municipal level using an appropriate set of proxy variables.
