On Friday, October 6, a webinar was held on the new models for managing low emission zones (#LEZ) promoted in #Spain, with the ultimate goal of “contributing to improving air quality and mitigating climate change, leading to better health for citizens and enhanced urban quality of life” (Real Decreto 1052/2022).
The webinar, moderated by Antonio Segura Morilla, Business Development Manager SUEZ Air Quality & Climate, featured:
- David Cartelle Fernández, Product Manager Air Monitoring & Modeling – SUEZ Air Quality & Climate Spain.
- Cristina Pozzi, Project Manager ARIANET – SUEZ Italy.
- Ismael Aznar Cano, Partner for Environment and Climate at PwC Tax & Legal.
- Carlos Guillamón Peña, Head of Technology Area at Aluvisa.
A few days later, we share here ARIANET’s presentation, “The use of traffic flows models for traffic emissions calculation.” Engineer Cristina Pozzi discussed some experiences where the application of the Caruso allocation model allowed for the reconstruction of real traffic flows on the road network and the representation of possible alternative mobility scenarios, which were then used to feed the TREFIC model for estimating vehicle emissions in specific cases.
Thanks to these tools, the planning of low emission zones can be carried out more effectively, enabling accurate quantification of the impacts on air quality and the health of residents in the cities where they are implemented.
