Coinciding with the start of spring, the National Pollen Day is organized.

This event, hosted by the Italian Society of Aerobiology Medicine and Environment (S.I.A.M.A.), chaired by Professor Vincenzo Patella, has reached its sixteenth edition. It serves as an occasion to draw attention to the issue of pollen allergies, a growing problem affecting nearly ten million people in Italy alone, who are experiencing increasingly severe and prolonged symptoms.

Due to rising pollution, higher temperatures, and the greater presence of pollen in the air, it is expected that by 2050, 1 in 2 people worldwide will suffer from allergies.

This year’s theme focuses on environmental monitoring and allergy risk prevention, with discussions on pollen dispersal modeling and the development of a national air quality model, including pollen monitoring and its potential applications and innovation prospects for the future.

Dr. Mihaela Mircea will present a talk on “Pollen Modeling in the National Air Quality Model AMS MINNI,” a result of collaboration between ARIANET and ENEA.
