Gianni Luigi Tinarelli, who holds a degree in Physics from the University of Milan, is one of the co-founders of ARIANET and has over 35 years of experience in atmospheric dispersion, gained during the first 20 years of his career at the research centers of ENEL S.p.A.
His work primarily focuses on the modeling of transport and dispersion of chemical pollutants and odorous substances in the atmosphere. He is responsible for the development of atmospheric dispersion modeling systems over complex terrain, from micro to regional scales. Specifically, he is one of the principal developers of the Lagrangian particle dispersion code SPRAY and the parallel suite PMSS (Parallel Micro Swift Spray), which are currently used both at ARIANET and by several Regional Environmental Protection Agencies in Italy. At ARIANET, he serves as a Project Leader, overseeing air quality impact studies. He also maintains collaborative relationships with national research organizations such as ENEA, CNR, and INAIL.
He has been a member of the managing committee for the ESSEM COST Action ES1006 and has lectured in courses on atmospheric dispersion modeling at both national and international levels. His specific areas of expertise include atmospheric dispersion, model development, programming, GIS software, studies, project management, and technical training. He is a co-author of numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has participated in various national and international scientific conferences.
